Thiyagi Thileepan Memorial Food Drive
This food drive commemorates Thiyagi Thileepan’s life sacrifice, spreading awareness of his 12-day hunger strike, while addressing food security within Canada.
In dedication of his 15 918-minutes fast symbolizing strength and courage, we, with the help of our community, aim to collect and distribute 15 918 lbs of food provisions to local food banks in the Greater Toronto Area, Montreal, and Ottawa to honour Thiyagi Thileepan’s sacrifice.
The Food Drive donation period will run from September 15th, 09:30 AM to September 26th, 10:48 AM signifying every minute of Thiyagi Thileepan’s hunger strike.
We invite the public and youth, social and community organizations in Toronto, York Region, Peel Region, Durham Region, Ottawa, and Montreal to join us in our efforts to honour Thiyagi Thileepan’s sacrifice by taking part in this community initiative.
தியாக தீபம் திலீபன் அவர்களின் 34ஆவது ஆண்டு நினைவேந்தலை முன்னிட்டு, தமிழ்க் குடிமைச் செயலியக்கம் (Tamil Canadian Centre for Civic Action) உணவு வங்கிகளுக்கான உணவுக்கொடைத் திட்டமொன்றை முன்னெடுக்கின்றது.
தியாகதீபம் திலீபன், 1987 செப்டெம்பர் 15ம் நாள் தொடக்கம் 26ம் நாள் வரையில் பன்னிரண்டு நாள்களாகத் தன்னை உருக்கிய 15,918 நிமிடங்களைக் குறிக்குமுகமாக உணவுக்கொடையின் இலக்கு 15,918 இறாத்தல் என நிர்ணயிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
தமிழ்க் குடிமைச் செயலியக்கம் கடந்த ஆண்டு அழைப்பு விடுத்த முதலாவது உணவுக்கொடையில் 16,000 இறாத்தலுக்கு மேற்பட்ட உலர் உணவுப்பொருட்களையும் பழுதடையா உணவுப்பொருள்களையும் உணவு வங்கிகளுக்கு வழங்கப்பட்டமையையும் இங்கு நினைவிற்கொள்கிறோம்.
உணவை மறுத்துத் தன்னை உருக்கியவன் நினைவாக உண்டி கொடுத்துப் பசி போக்குவோம்!
