Bharathi Park

picture – We launched a campaign during Tamil Heritage Month 2020 to name a park in Scarborough after the renowned Tamil poet, journalist and activist Bharathiyar. Bharathi dedicated his life to fight against oppression. His work spanned across multiple social and political issues – including caste, gender, and independence. He was wholeheartedly against the caste system and embraced and advocated for various oppressed sections of our society. He also fought for women’s rights and gender equality which is evident in his writings.
